My card is broken/defective
Is your personal OV-chipkaart visibly broken, then you can immediatly apply for a replacement card. You will receive a replacement card within three working days. Do you suspect that the OV-chipkaart is technically defective? Then first check whether your card is actually defective.
Check whether your card is defective yourself
- Negative credit? You will no longer be able to check in or travel on a pass. Reload your credit and you will be able to travel again.
- No negative balance? But you still doubt whether your OV-chipkaart is defective? Then go to the counter of the public transport company where you last checked in to find out what is wrong with your card.
- Forgot to check out? If you fail to check out twelve times, your card will be blocked. You can remove the block at a counter for the public transport company you checked in with most recently.
- Do you got automatic reloading on your card? Your credit may have been temporarily blocked because failed collections have not been paid. Or because your debt amounts to more than € 60. You can find out how to pay and remove the block here.
Does your personal card appears to be defective?
If your personal OV-chipkaart is definitely defective, Report the OV-chipkaart as defective and apply for a new card. You will receive your new card within three working days. Meanwhile you can travel with a temporary student travel product.
Apply for a temporary student travel product
While you’re waiting for your replacement card it’s possible to use a temporary student travel product. First you have to buy a anonymous OV-chipkaart (if you don’t have one yet) and then you can apply for a temporary student travel product. The temporary product can be picked up within one hour.
Please note: A temporary student travel product can only be used for 7 days and can be requested for only a few times. So quickly apply for a replacement OV-chipkaart.
